Howdy! I'm

An Artist and a Writer

Scientific Illustrations

As a part of my work as a researcher, I regularly create scientific figures and illustrations for presentations, papers, or posters. My main tools are generally 2D vector art (Inkscape) and 3D modeling (Blender), though I also hand draw some images every now and again (see #SketchYourScience below). For more illustrations, please see: Jfeatherstone/science-art!
Alongside my own research, I work as a scientific illustrator, primarily with my institute's Media Relations Section, though with other groups occasionally as well. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you're interested in chatting!

Scientific Writing

I also write scientific press releases and articles for my institute's Media Relations Section. This includes interviewing researchers, drafting and editing articles, and illustrating concepts as needed.
Carnivorous plants and wasps blur the line between friend and food
A new study on the chemical composition of pitcher plants and their wasp neighbors suggests that what was thought to be a purely predatory-prey relationship might benefit both sides.

Sketches

#SketchYourScience is an initiative from AGU lead by Irene Crisologo and Mj Riches encouraging scientists to take a creative approach to scientific communication through cute sketches and drawings!
Many of the images on this site are inspired by this initiative, and a more complete collection of my sketches can be found in this repo: Jfeatherstone/sketch-your-science.
